There are more than plant roots to be found in the yard and garden. A couple of cool days in a row and I’ve found myself digging out the sweats. Those comfy old sweatshirts and pants that add an extra layer of warmth and comfort to the hours spent outside. My favorite old standby’s come from Roots. On this cool and rainy afternoon, while taking an indoor break from the great outdoors, I decided to take a little tour of the Roots website. Here are some of the very interesting things I found.
Greener Shipping Options
The CO2 emissions that are created through the shipping of Roots products are being offset or neutralized through Zerofootprint’s reforestation projects. Roots has also begun to offset CO2 emissions from electricity used at its Rosedale store in Toronto and those associated with the production of its paper shopping bags.
Live Green
Eco-friendly styles are being introduced in their Live Green collection. So far the collection is made up of Women’s Bamboo Fold Over Pant, the Roots Eco-Bag and the Global Warming Bracelet. I imagine that with the organic cotton products Roots has been experimenting with since 1989, we are sure to see many more additions to this area.
Flick Off Global Warming
For this campaign, Roots produced organic T-shirts, wristbands and other merchandise bearing the Flick Off logos. A percentage of the proceeds from any Flick off merchandise will be donated to Environmental Defence Canada.
Stop Global Warming Fund
Roots initiated a Stop Global Warming Braceletfund-raising campaign which surpassed $100,000. It was donated to the US-based ecological organization StopGlobalWarming.org.
All this and they have great merchandise too! It’s a good feeling knowing that my Rootsare green.
