It’s fall bulb buying time. (Say that five times fast!) When I moved into my current home just over a year ago, I had no idea what spring flowering bulbs might be hiding in the earth. Now, having witnessed one full growth cycle, I know what is here and I just have to figure out what to add.
This is what popped up this past Spring:
4 white tulips
4 red tulips
1 fragrant pink hyacinth
1 patch of grape hyacinths
3 patches of blue scilla (Siberian Squill)
2 volunteer patches of white snowdrops
As you can tell, there’s plenty of room for improvement. The red tulips have been removed - I’m not a big fan of the red, but everything else is staying.
For fun, I’ve decided to give myself a garden budget of $100. I want to see how far I can go with this amount and what kind of an impact one hundred dollars worth of fall bulbs will make come next spring. Just to be clear, that’s $100 before taxes and any shipping or handling fees for my purchases.
Looking at different websites and through various garden catalogs has me feeling like a kid in a candy store! I could eat everything up. The alliums resemble big purple lollipops on long sticks. The colors draw me in and I can almost smell the delicious fragrance of spring hyacinths. Yummy! There are so many temptations. At first I thought maybe $100 was a large budget, but with all the choices available for spring blooming bulbs, this could be more difficult than anticipated.

This is a list of the fall bulbs I would like to add:
