Well, it’s done - my Christmas tree is decorated. After some deliberation on determining my Christmas tree decorating theme for this year, I chose to go with the “Give It All You Got” method of decorating. Basically, I gave it all I had. Instead of picking one specific decorating style, I used all of my ornaments, most of my garlands and simply added new ribbon for bows. And you know what? I love it!
The Tree of My Dreams
The Christmas tree itself is a new addition this year. Space is at a premium in my little old house, so I went in search of a slim artificial Christmas tree. I really wanted a funky little Charlie Brown-type Christmas tree - something imperfect and rather spindly. Strange as it may seem, those odd little trees are very cost prohibitive. The ones I saw and admired were in the $400 price range. Whaaat! No way was I going to spend that kind of cash on a warped, sad little tree that only comes out of the box for about 30 short days each year.
My search continued. Then, one day as I was leaving the grocery store, I saw boxes of slim Christmas trees for the ridiculously low price of $79. After a quick Q & A with the lady at the courtesy desk,
Q - “If it’s hideous when I put it together, can I bring it back?”
A - “Sure, if you can get it back in the box.”
the tree was added to the top of my cart and I was off. It wasn’t the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of my dreams, but it was slim and the price was right!
The Finished Product
This is how it turned out. Funny how all of the decorations just work together. Maybe it’s because deep down I really am a traditionalist, and red and green are the traditional Christmas colors.
Homemade ornaments are placed beside delicate glass ornaments, and glittery ornaments are hung right next to rustic ornaments. I think in previous years I’ve done far too much thinking about how Christmas decorations should look instead of just putting ornaments on where spaces called for them. This new mish-mash style of decorating is decidedly more fun and the results are far more pleasing (at least to my eyes, and since it is my tree, my eyes are the only ones that count)!
