Hi: I really enjoyed viewing your barnboard birdhouse display. My husband and I bought my family farm 15 years ago. It has been in my family for 4 generations. There is a shed/workshop that my grandfather used as a garage and my father as his workshop. It is in very rough shape and needs to be taken down. I don’t want it to be forgotten, so I had the idea of making everyone in my family(7 of us) a birdhouse from the 100+ year old barnboards. I would love to get some patterns for different sizes and styles. Would you happen to have any ideas? I would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Maureen

Hi Maureen,

I’m so glad you like my barnboard birdhouses and I think making birdhouses from the barnboard of your old shed/workshop is a fabulous idea! In a way those birdhouses will be family heirlooms. I’ll do some checking around for you and see what I can come up with in the way of plans. Will let you know.

OMG these are just beautiful. I love that they are recycled and have a story. Here in Australia they don’t seem to be doing this, but as I have a 70 year old ’shed’ which needs to be pulled down, I have decided to have a go and build some birdhouses. I have found many patterns on the net and have purchased some new tools. I hope my birdhouses will become family treasures, as I intend to give them to my nieces and newphews as gifts.

CC,

If you were looking for an excuse to purchase new tools, this is a great one! If I had a source for some barn board now, I’d probably make some myself.

Good luck with your projects and don’t hesitate to send pics when you’re done!

Thank you,

Cathy
