Wow, what a difference a few weeks makes in the appearance of a garden! Come along for an early June garden tour.
The three Bridalwreath Spirea shrubs are fully loaded and bending under the weight of thousands of glorious white blossoms.

It’s hard to believe they are the same scrawny, spindly specimens we planted last year.

Out front, the largest of all the beds is filling in beautifully. Mom and I are loving the Sweet Woodruff that curves around at the sides and back of this bed.

The purple lilacs provide a profusion of color and their sweet smell hangs in the air. The last of the grape hyacinths are still holding on.

A close-up shot of my Lenten Rose hellebore with its shy flower faces turned downward. I have a Purple Hellebore ‘Helleborus atrorubens’ also, but this year it didn’t produce any blooms. My fingers are crossed for next spring.

The perennials in the rock garden have grown considerably.

The purple Spiderwort is now blooming. We’ll enjoy those blooms right through to fall. There’s a stonecrop sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ hiding in behind the spiderwort.

April’s fiddleheads have unfurled.

Now the various ferns in the garden at the back deck and in the hosta garden beside the front porch are really showing off. This is one of my favorites - Frizeillae Lady Fern.

Followed closely by the Cristata Jackson Male Fern.

And the Rotsiel Lady Fern.

All of the hostas are up and opening their leaves. Some of the large-leaved varieties have been a little slower.

The Alpine Columbine didn’t want to miss out on this early June garden tour either.

There is so much happening in the garden, it’s hard to catch it all. Every day there’s something new to replace an earlier spring bloomer. I’ll finish this post with one last picture - the early growth stage of a Porcelain Vine surrounded at its base by Sweet Woodruff.

It’s just getting going. Although it always seems to be slow to wake up from its long winter’s nap, by the time August rolls around it will be huge.
Hope you’ve enjoyed today’s tour. Do come back again for more tours and see how our garden grows!
