- Weed/feed lawn; leave grass a little longer for more vigorous growth.
- Spray to prevent mildew and black spot.
- Weed out old strawberries and fertilize (10-10-10).
- Plant successive crops to fill in gaps from early harvest.
- Cut back bulb foliage at ground level.
- Water container plants daily and fertilize at half-strength weekly (alternate 15-30-15 and 8-24-12).
- Deadhead annuals and perennials; pinch off growing tips of annuals to thicken plants.
- Stake dahlias and tomatoes.
- Stop cutting asparagus and add compost.
- Prune evergreen hedges.
- Prune watersprouts and suckers around bases of lilacs and fruit trees.
- Watch for signs of harmful insects.
- Regularly weed and cultivate flower beds and vegetable gardens.
- Use a soluble fertilizer every few weeks as you water flower beds (15-30-15 or 8-24-12) OPTION use a soluble organic fertilizer.
- Feed roses July 15; fertilize perennials July 30.
- Mulch plants to conserve moisture.
- Root cuttings from deciduous or broad-leafed evergreens.
