- Clean up vegetable garden and till soil.
- Remove annuals and cut back perennials leaving some seedheads for the winter birds and to trap snow for insulation.
- Lift tender bulbs after tops have died; clean, dry and store in a cool space.
- Hill roses with triple mix; trim to 12″ - 24″.
- Plant spring bulbs; add bonemeal and water well.
- Prune old wood and crossed branches in shrubs and trees.
- Keep watering trees and shrubs before cold weather comes.
- Mulch perennials with compost or with peat moss, or a mix of both.
- Wrap tender shrubs for winter protection.
- Clean and store planters and pots.
- Rake leaves and use as mulch in flower beds or spread on vegetable gardens to compost.
- Dig up geraniums. Dry plants and shake off most of soil. Hang in paper bags in a cool place to overwinter.
- Go for a hike!
